After dismantling existing forms through acts of destruction, he gathers the remaining fragments and reconstructs them into new sculptures. Embarking on my second master's degree at Cranbrook presented its challenges. If my prior work served as a means of organizing and conveying a natural flow of thoughts and questions within a narrative structure, this new endeavor called for a departure from familiar territory. I sought to break away from the established flow and subject matter. Formally, I aimed to craft poetry rather than prose. Novels, with their linear narrative structure, offer a gentler approach, guiding readers through a story with clarity through the arrangement of words, sentences, and paragraphs. Poetry, in contrast, deconstructs and disperses conventional writing methods, embracing a non-linear progression of thoughts. While it may possess an overarching theme like a novel, poetry embodies an experimental narrative structure, offering a more liberated mode of thought. Unlike novels, poetry is unbound by the constraints of a beginning or endpoint, embracing an infinite expanse of expression. The questions that arose as I delved into the study of sculpture were perhaps inevitable. I harbored genuine curiosity about the essence of sculpture, art, and life itself. Though these inquiries carried weighty implications, they also possessed an element of whimsy. Reminiscent of Milan Kundera's narrative style, which skillfully interweaves weighty themes with moments of levity, I found myself drawn to the irreverent nuances of life. These moments of skeptical humor offer a nuanced perspective on the gravity of existence. Contemplating the essence of sculpture, I found myself confronted with seemingly trivial images. A potato, emblematic of mundane existence, juxtaposed against the lofty concept of "art." Yet, the potato, ubiquitous and unassuming, offered a mirror to our everyday reality. When creating artwork, I often focus on profound meaning, grappling with weighty questions and discourse. Yet, at my core, I yearned to escape from these heavy concepts, seeking refuge in the tangible, earthly realm. Creating artwork is, in part, a journey of self-reflection. Artists are often driven by a desire to explore the metaphysical realm, yet life and art are more akin to comedy than a noble adventure. Humor serves as a means to transcend the inherent seriousness of existence, offering a fleeting respite from the burdens of reality. While I may not yet have all the answers regarding sculpture and art, I view this journey as an ongoing exploration without a predetermined destination. struggles towards life. And anguish about how to live. I think this installation comes from me, but I believe it contains a general sense of life. It’s an effort to live a meaningful life. Those hands(People) are trying to do something(Live a life) Skis can’t go uphill, but people try to go somewhere that seems impossible. It looks like a futile effort, but those efforts make life valuable. But not all the tryings end up with success. Some things are still struggling or even stuck in some situations, fail to go somewhere that they want, it could give them a severe wound or scar after trying(stick), but we can’t say it’s not worth of it. Even those mistakes, failures are part of life, and all the things are still connecting and supporting each other, and all these things are repeat and repeat.&nbsp; In this endless circulation of life, maybe people will feel tired and want to give up. Can a person change(save) a person, or Can a person change(save) by himself. One of my favorite movies is “The Kid with a Bike” it’s a french movie, and it’s a story about a boy. Parents divorced and leave him alone, and he eventually became pessimistic and violent, but one woman trying to care, sacrifice, love him. Finally, he realized his wrong behaviors and tried to live the right way. &nbsp; I know this is a movie, and it’s a bit hard to change someone in a totally different way. I think that a person saves a person, but it’s not just by one person. And a monotonous and sleepy voice also makes us feel loose. I want to express those dreamy/drunken states by using neon colors. Once when you see the lyrics, the song’s atmosphere changes a lot. It’s about Jim, He just lost his love, and everything he dreamed was gone. He got nothing but just a car and alcohol. He was so frustrated about the situation. So he wants to die. He goes faster and faster. Finally, his Chrysler is flying in the trees and flowers. Those gold/bronze finished parts mean the shiny dream he dreamt. But all of those things seem to fall apart. So everything goes cracked and collapsed. You can see broken details on them. Chairs are his car seat. Those balls seem like gear shifts of a car. Because He is so drunk, everything seems unstably moving and distorted. That’s the reason I made forms and textures so Irregularly and complex. Two chairs look like going somewhere like his fast car. Also, I was more focused on my intuition, and I was continuously listening to this song while I’m making it. So I didn’t plan all the detail, have a vague plan and image of Jim’s situation In my mind. And instead of deep meaning, I was more focused on my initial response and reaction. There is no meaning in there. This is the first work that I honestly face. I forgot so many real problems of my work and life and just made what I wanted to make. Purely nonsense, I found objects that I randomly collected from the street, and black vinyl covered the whole studio just space was so messed, then I just freely expressed my feelings on the object with epoxy clay. For having a good sleep, he begins to brush his teeth, put a light for warming a candle, and prepare a crucifix to protect himself from a scary nightmare. And also, there is warm, yellow lighting beside his bed. But all of a sudden, just after falling asleep, a mystery dream came to him. His room has changed to the empty elevator room, and everything that he saw and used is changed to scary ghosts. It seems like a dark monster but somewhat has a kind of funny side too. He was frightened at first but soon had a curiosity about those ghosts, then the spirits started to talk to him. I tried to make something for my first critic using an iron board, but in the end, I didn’t satisfied with it, So I smashed it with a big hammer in deep anger at 3 AM., and I didn’t even want to see it, so I threw it away immediately, The iron board was so sad and angry because it has been waiting so long time to become an artwork. So It decided to escape from the Cranbrook trash can. It started to find a new life. First of all, it found an abandoned chair and some stuff around it and gathered it to make a new body for it. Then it decided to have a secret ritual of giving a newborn the left structure too. It made a holy cross hang it on the ceiling and killed something for forbidden ritual. At first, we decided to have a non-discussion collaboration. That means Forrest makes what he wants and gives it to me, and I’m going to add or change it in my way. He gave me a wood chair, which has a curved, wavy form. Those wavy patterns remind me of a surreal world and subconsciousness and dark-fantasy dreams. So I decided to make a subconsciousness of this chair. The chair fell asleep in the middle of the night, and it dreamed a dream. It’s always been a friendly and kind chair in the chair’s society, but it always feels attracted to something deep abyss. This abyss looks very beautiful, attractive, but once the chair looks into its abyss very carefully, the abyss comes to it, catches it, destroys it. Its body is changing into a long curvy line from deep subconsciousness. And he cannot resist it. Because all these processes were so sudden, soft, so smoothly proceed. Now, the chair doesn’t know what to do, is it can escape from it? Or goes more deep subconscious world to find or confront something? He wakes up and sleeps very early. Running and exercising every day. It seems organized, calm, and peaceful. But when we read Haruki's novel. Calm beauty and deep sadness come together. He goes into a human's deep mind, usually very dark side. And at the same time, it touches us because everybody has one's sadness and darkness in their mind too. In his novels, the main character is just an average young person But accidentally confronts big events. At the first time, one is suffering from it but struggles to confront it gradually. We usually don't know about the ending of one's life. But mainly, his novels are about how to face that something that we want to avoid. Our life seems to be the same. We usually want to live life to see a bright side. But darkness is also clearly part of it. When we admit it and confront it, we can see the natural face of life as a whole. Those works are about the abyss—our deep darkness inside us. But be careful. This works is about that. Just having that vague image about the cliff, Almost every part and texture are decided by coincidence. I followed my mind and hand without a precise plan, stopped just when it seems like be finished. Then, this ambiguous thing has appeared. I would say it’s more grotesque and ominous than I thought. Making something is almost the same as the process of writing poetry. First of all, We have to decide/find what to write. For finding something to write, We have to observe everything around or inside us closely and carefully. Finding inspiration is one of the most interesting and also sometimes painful moments. We have to dive into our deep minds to dig out something from chaos. I virtualize that process of finding some inspiration through the top part of the table. Those tough waves-like textures and colors are not only about a mixture of black and white. It’s more about our confusing state of the inner side. It’s about adventure for finding something in fluctuating emotions of our mind. When we found anything to write for poetry, then we start to write it and assemble words and sentences. Organize it. And make a balance between every separated thing (words, sentences, meanings) into a whole piece In the end. After finishing poetry, it looks very well organized and stable, but at the same time, it’s very unstable too. Because if we just put out even a single word or sentence, the whole balance will be fall apart immediately. But at the same time, that anxiety of structure also makes it more interesting and attractive. I tried to express that moment through the joint point of the top and bottom parts.
